Post Pill Acne

Did you know our skin is a reflection of our internal environment?

One thing I am seeing a lot of in clinic is clients seeking support coming off the pill. For many of these clients, they were put on the pill as teenagers as a response to acne, therefore coming off the pill, the return of acne is a major concern.

Working closely with a Naturopath to support the body prior to coming off the pill can help to reduce the incidence of post-pill acne.

In order to support the body through this transition, we want to focus on:
〰️ supporting the nervous system - breath work, gentle movement, meditation / mindfulness, time in nature, good quality sleep, magnesium, adaptogenic herbs

〰️ supporting the liver to detoxify synthetic hormones from the pill - cruciferous vegetables, reduce alcohol & caffeine, increase water intake, antioxidant rich foods, fibre, green tea, dandelion root tea, St Mary’s Thistle

〰️ assessing & addressing nutrient deficiencies as a result of the pill - comprehensive pathology testing & tailored supplementation

〰️ reducing androgen production & re-establising the brain-ovarian connection to encourage a regular menstrual cycle - zinc, spearmint tea, balanced meals, healthy fats, low intensity exercise, stress management, good quality sleep, Saw Palmetto, Shatavari, Vitex, adaptogenic herbs

〰️ supporting the gut microbiome - plant diversity, pre & probiotic rich foods, reduce inflammatory foods, strain-specific probiotics

〰️ regulate blood sugar levels - regular balanced meals, protein, healthy fats, cinnamon, Gymnema

This can be a daunting time, and it isn't uncommon for skin to flare up 3-6 months post coming off the pill. However, there is SO much that Naturopathy can do to support the body during this time, so please reach out if this is something you are seeking support with.
